About Dan

Dan Boyd holds four graduate degrees in counseling-psychology or counseling-related fields. He is the found​er of Psychological Services International in Bangkok, Thailand, and is Thailand's senior practicing expatriate counselor. Having extensive U.S. training, Dan holds advanced degrees from the University of the State of New York and Loyola University in Maryland. He has been counseling for over thirty-five years, and has been in Thailand for more than thirty years, so is well equipped to handle issues specific to expatriate life and the Thai cultural context. He also has extensive experience with Thais returning from abroad and experiencing reverse culture shock. 


Dan's areas of specialization include mood disorders: depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks; drug and alcohol abuse and addictions; cross-cultural issues; BPD; and adolescents.  Dan does not work with pre-adolescent children, but can refer you to a competent colleague. .Members of the LGBTQ+ community are warmly welcomed.                                                       

Utilizing an eclectic, client-centered counseling style, Dan borrows primarily from cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy. 


Dan is not an aggressive counselor and believes in allowing each client to establish his or her own pace. Counseling sessions last fifty minutes and usually feel like an intimate conversation with a good friend.
